Mike Wilks was born in London and won a scholarship to art school at the age of 13. He went on to study art for the next 7 years. After he graduated he started his own very successful graphic design company before selling it to begin a second career as an illustrator and writer.
Mike has had eight illustrated books published including The Ultimate Noah's Ark and The Ultimate Alphabet. Both of these titles were bestsellers. The Ultimate Alphabet went on to sell over 750,000 copies worldwide and was WHSmith's "most shop-lifted title" in its year of publication! After spending ten years living on a remote mountaintop in the of South of France, Mike now lives & works in an incredible split level apartment in a converted pub in South London.
The world of Mirrorscape first came to him when he lived in France but it wasn't until he came back to England that he began to work seriously on the novel. Mike says that he found the transition from illustration to writing relatively natural - "Now I write down what I see inside my head rather than draw or paint it". He has completed the sequel, Mirrorstorm, due to be published in April 2009, and is currently working on Mirrorshade, the third book in the series, which will be published in June 2009.
Mike has been the subject of an award-winning BBC documentary and had four one man exhibitions. His paintings and drawings are widely sought after and have been acquired by public and private collections in Europe and the USA.
