Character Profiles
When Mel enrols as an apprentice at Ambrosius Blenk’s studio, he and his new friends Ludo and Wren soon find themselves caught up in the adventure of a lifetime. Meet the three heroes below.

Melkin WomperGifted artist, new apprentice to Ambrosius Blenk. Loves to draw imaginary things especially hybrids, creatures that are made up of more than one species e.g. an owl’s body and a hare’s head. Mel comes from a poor family who live in a village called Kop in the country where there is no colour so he often dreams in colour. His father is a weaver and was keen for Mel to learn the trade rather than follow his dreams. Mel is a loyal friend. |

Ludo CleefLudo befriends Mel when he first arrives at Ambrosius Blenk’s studio. He has pale skin, dark hair and hazel eyes. Ludo comes from a very well-to-do family, his father is Lord Cleef and as the youngest son he has been spoilt. The apprenticeship has been bought for him with money beyond his family’s means and he is scared of getting into trouble and letting his family down. Ludo doesn’t really fit in and is used to being bullied by Groot an older apprentice. Mel and Wren are his only friends and he doesn’t have as much imagination as the others. |

Wren DelfWren works in the kitchens at the studio. She is slim with long auburn hair and green eyes. Her father is a clock maker and currently a prisoner of the Fifth Mystery. Before he was imprisoned and she started work in the kitchens, Wren used to help in her father’s workshop. She is practical and fearless. |
